Analyzing a primary source

Analyzing primary sources are an essential part of being a historian. Recall that primary sources are any object or documentation created at the time of an event (i.e. newspaper, journal, cartoon, advertisements, maps, artifacts, movies, music, etc.). Examination of these documents is essential to understanding history.
