WEST PHILADELPHIA HIGH SCHOOL 2007-2011

From 2006-2011, I proudly worked at West Philadelphia High School. There were many changes during those years. Below are just some of the projects that students completed while in my class.

Extinguishing the Flame (2010-2011)

2010-2011- Students in my class created a film to accompany their campaign to increase student awareness of STDs

Vacant Lot Project (46th and Market Proposal 2009-2010)

This was the year-long culminating project of the Microeconomics/Community Development class I taught. Students were expected to put our learning into practice by determining the best use for the vacant space next to the 46th Street El station. This project was completed in partnership with the Enterprise Center CDC.
46th and Market Proposal

wphs academy re-branding project 2008-2009

My class was charged with rebranding the academies at West Philadelphia High School with new logos. The class began with the original WPHS logo and surveyed the school and ran focus groups to create some options (below). After coming up with options with elements of the original logo, the students surveyed the school and held focus groups again to finalize the designs for the school.

Do You HEar US? (Temple Youth Voices project 2008-2009)

West Philadelphia High students from my class created this as part of the partnership between the Urban Leadership Academy and Temple Youth Voices.

49th and chancellor lot proposal (2008)

Students in my class worked with the community to determine what they would like to see with the vacant lot and design a proposal to reflect those wishes. Students also worked to clean the lot on "Clean Up Day."

Note: The lot was purchased by a real estate speculator who demanded much too much money for the property, which did not fit in with the community budget.

Fire: The Urban Studies Movie (2007-2008)

Created by students in my class hoping to address some of the concerns and views of WPHS students following the 2006-2007 school year.
